Recording update

Friday, June 22nd, 2007
Wednesday we pretty well nailed the guitar parts on “A Novel Idea”, which makes this the first “completed” song for the album. I think it makes a suitable opening track, but all that’s going to depend on how things piece together when they’re all finished.

Anyway, I took some video which I will put up as soon as I can convert it from a .mov file to something less…bulky. Also, I’ve had syncing problems with the audio when trying to upload the file as is to YouTube. Anyone have any suggestions on how to make this work?

Love and gourami,
Jack

EP thoughts

Thursday, May 31st, 2007
Heya.

Now that we’ve all had about three months to live with this beastie, what do you think now?

It’s interesting how our views on art change the longer we’ve lived with it. I mean, it’s the case within the band…the relationships you have with your own songs change.

What’s it like for you? Any songs you’ve grown closer to the more you’ve listened to them? By the same token, has the spark faded for a particular song?

Love and gourami,
Jack

2007EP at SpinStreet

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007
Attention Memphis shoppers!

The EP is now available at SpinStreet (on the corner of Poplar and Highland). I’ve asked that they not charge more than $5.99 so let me know if you see differently.

I’ve e-mailed a couple of you about orders…please get in touch with me. They won’t let me do a shipping label for one of you because of a discrepancy with the ZIP code.

State of the Dahlia or Summink

Friday, February 23rd, 2007
We’re edging up quickly on March, and the first public performance by Shortwave Dahlia as well as the unleashing of our 2007EP release. The response in pre-sales has been very encouraging and we’re excited to share this music with you.

I guess this would be a good time to tell you that the pre-sale ends February 28th. After that, the cd will be priced at a (still affordable) $5; however we will be charging a small amount to cover shipping costs. This applies to domestic orders, as we will have to deal with international orders on an as-ordered basis. So please, if you live abroad and you would like to order a copy, please e-mail us first (admin@shortwavedahlia.org) so that we can calculate shipping for your location.

As far as the live performance goes, we are happy to be headlining our first bill March 24th with two immensely talented opening acts. Two Way Radio (formerly Walkie Talkie) deliver sparkling pop and Holly Cole is a talented singer/songwriter of folk and country disciplines. We appreciate such a diverse bill and hope you will too. Neil’s, the venue, is at the intersection of Madison and McLean in Midtown Memphis (wow, the alliteration is staggering!) and the show starts at 9:00 PM with a $3 cover. In addition, the food at this place is pretty good if I remember rightly.

I think I’ve probably rambled long enough for now. We will have more to tell you about the show as it nears. If you want to take advantage of the pre-sale price, PayPal shortwavedahlia@yahoo.com

Have a good weekend!
Jack

Chinese Whispers

Friday, February 16th, 2007
Let’s pull down the shade
and share in secret code
I have information
and someone needs to know
No matter who it hurts
in the name of honesty
A willful slip of the tongue
A broken vow of secrecy

It’s coming round
One more time again
It’s coming round
One more time and then
We’ll turn the truth against you.

This cruel social circle
shall send one out to learn
With our cups to the wall
while we feign concern
They divulge the details,
confess to every crime
And like a flippant lover
we’ll screw them in due time

It’s coming round
One more time and then
It will come around
Again and again and again
We’ll never let you live it down

Band Update

Monday, January 29th, 2007
So now what?

Well, this week the band are recording our special surprises for the EP, then sending it off to be pressed. It’ll be approximately a four-week turnaround which seems like a lifetime when you’re waiting for it! We’ll be taking pre-orders at the sale price all the way up to the day the cds arrive, so take advantage of that in the meantime.

We’ve loosely discussed doing a cover song for the show, but haven’t pinned one down. I don’t know that we will. If you happen to think of something you think we’d do well, you’re welcome to toss suggestions our way.
